Project Summary:International Needs is committed to working in the areas of the world hit hardest by extreme poverty, civil strife and disease, bringing the love of Christ and life-saving aid to desperate people. Our work in Colombia is no exception. Recruitment of child soldiers, broken families, drug abuse and the ongoing strife between the Colombia militia and Guerrilla groups have forced many families to flee for safety. Finding refuge on the wayside of urban cities, these families are left with nothing – they are without food, clean water, shelter and hope. But through God's strength, our team in Colombia is changing lives. We have secured a plot of land for 10,000 displaced families which today ministers to both the physical and spiritual needs of these families. Our school, Rose of Sharon, is truly changing lives. Children are being educated and are equipped with the knowledge and tools they need to be leaders of change within their community. Project Goal
Project Details:Life in Colombia is extremely difficult, especially for children. In the last 15 years, close to 3 million people in Colombia have been displaced by corrupt practices of the government and militant groups. Sadly, close to 75 per cent of the displaced persons are women and children. As a result of this displacement, an estimated 7,000 children have been recruited as child soldiers and close to half of the women and children have endured some form of sexual or domestic violence. Help International Needs empower families in Colombia to establish an inheritance, a legacy of God's power, for future generations by giving a gift today. Because of our team on the field and the compassionate response of our donors, children are reaching their God-given potential. But more than this, fathers and husbands are being taught godly principles of respect and humility and women, for the first time ever, are given access to their most fundamental rights and opportunities for a better life through income-generating practices.
