Emergency Relief in Haiti

Earthquake Response

Project Summary:

The 7.0 magnitude earthquake that ruptured Port-au-Prince, Haiti on January 12, 2010 has affected the lives of more than 3 million people. To date, 200,000 people have been reported dead, 250,000 have been injured and 150,000 have been left homeless. Men, women and children are without food, clean water and any access to health care.

In partnership with International Child Care (ICC), I.N. Network is helping to facilitate immediate medical emergency response and long-term aid to communities devastated by the earthquake. Your ongoing support is needed today to ensure the safety, care and support of men, women and children affected by the earthquake in Haiti.

Project Details:

As the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere, Haiti is facing impossible odds. Even before the devastation of the earthquake, civil strife, extreme poverty, natural disasters and disease have impeded the growth and sustainability of many Haitian communities.

For over forty years ICC has been providing the people of Haiti with essential health care services through community-based health programs, immunization clinics and emergency and ongoing medical care through services offered at Grace Children's Hospital. Sadly, the quake ripped through the hospital walls, leaving three quarters of it in ruins. Today medical teams are serving hundreds of people in the eye care clinic – one of the only remaining buildings still standing on the hospital campus.

But there is hope.

Over the past three years I.N. Network has formed key partnerships with communities and organizations across Haiti and the Dominican Republic. These partnerships have been a catalyst for supply distribution, medical support and spiritual care throughout the aftermath of the earthquake. Our director in the Dominican Republic has been working closely with local organizations and ICC to ensure immediate and effective emergency response for communities in Haiti is received.
